DIY Advent Calendars

In the past few weeks I've stumbled across a ton of great advent calendar DIYs.  I loved advent calendars when I was a kid.  I still do, Nathan got me one from the grocery store last year that had all fancy chocolates inside.  Even though it's past the first it's not too late to start one.  Perhaps trying for the twelve days of Christmas might be a more manageable commitment.  If you want to keep it simple this red envelope advent calendar from Martha Stewart is understated but festive, and this simple tag calendar from Danyelle at Dandee is pretty enough to keep up year round (how fun would that be!?).  This falling star advent calendar from Design*Sponge is also hanging from a branch, but the treats are sewn inside of brown paper stars, beautiful!!  I love the tree themed advents I saw this year, the tree topped boxes from Oh Happy Day are sweet and the minimalist geometric trees from Willowday take the theme in a completely different direction.  Finally, I love the giant tree advent calendar, also from Oh Happy Day, that utilizes fabric from Ikea with stitched on pocket ornaments to hold the surprises.  And of you're not sure what to put inside your calendar Oh Happy Day has great ideas for little treats and prizes for kids, but I also love the idea of filling your calendar with fun holiday activities instead.  Click the links to see the full instructions on their sites.
